Round 2 - Round 3 - Round 4 - Round 5 1. Miami Dolphins: Jake Long, OT, Michigan
The Dolphins came to an agreement with Jake Long. Long is the best OT in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Dolphins take him to hold down the line for years to come for the Dolphins. He can both protect the left side of the line as well as help in running. The Dolphins have already signed Long so he will be in training camp and will be playing in the 2008 NFL season.
2. St. Louis Rams: Chris Long, DE, Virginia
The Rams wanted Jake Long but look to the defensive side of the ball. Chris Long is a great pick here to match up with Leonard Little and both help with run and pass. Chris Long is probably the most athletic DE in this draft because he can defend both the pass and the run. Other selections here would be Glenn Dorsey and the Rams could move Adam Carriker out to DE. Also Vernon Gholston would also be a great pick here because he puts a lot of pressure on the QB and is a slasher playing both DT and DE.
3. Atlanta Falcons: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Everyone knows that Dorsey is a beast in the middle of the defense. People are worried about injuries with him but he is a great player for the 2008 NFL Season. I remember announcers saying that Dorsey should be in the Heisman race because he is so good at what he does. Look for the Falcons to snag him and him to run their defense for the next 15 years.
4. Oakland Raiders: Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St.
I previously had the Raiders selecting Darren McFadden here in the 2008 NFL Draft. I now have the Raiders taking the most explosive player in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Raiders need a defensive end and Gholston is both a defensive end as well as a linebacker. Look for the Raiders to use him and for him to be an immediate impact racking up sacks immediately in the 2008 season. McFadden is another choice but I have heard that the Raiders are going to give Michael Bush and Fargas a shot at carrying the RB load. This pick will obviously also be affected by previous picks so look for them to take the best player that fits a need in the 2008 NFL Draft.
5. KC Chiefs: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
The Chiefs look to help their offensive line in 2008. The Chiefs would love if Jake Long falls to them here but there is no such luck. I had them taking Branden Albert here but they acquired more picks from the Vikings so they can address the O-Line later in the draft. Sedrick Ellis is a very good player and can help fulfill the Defensive line and the departure of Jared Allen. The Chiefs would also look at Vernon Gholston and Chris Long if they fell to them here as well. 6. NY Jets: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Thomas Jones and Washington are not the answers to a run game in the 2008 season. Darren McFadden could split time with either one of these RB’s because of his speed and versatility as a RB. He is quite possible the best athlete and football player in the entire 2008 NFL Draft. Look for the Jets to snag him pretty fast if McFadden falls to this selection. The Jets need to rebuild somewhere and McFadden is one of those players that can help do this in the 2008 season.
7. NE Patriots: Branden Albert, OG/OT, Virginia
I previously had the Patriots taking McKelvin with this pick. Now that Branden Albert has fallen this far the Patriots use him to patch up their holes they clearly showed in the Super Bowl. Branden Albert will be a perfect fit because he can play both the Guard and Tackle position. Look for Albert to get some time right away in 2008 and contribute.
8. Baltimore Ravens: Matt Ryan, QB, BC
Billick was fired so the Ravens are going to get rid of Boller for the 2008 season. In order to get rid of Boller they need someone to replace him and that is why they pick up Matt Ryan. Ryan is the top ranked QB in the 2008 NFL Draft now. I personally don’t think that the Ravens are going to help out their organization that much if they take a QB with this pick. If you get a QB and don’t have anyone to complement them then they aren’t going to be good. If I were the Ravens I would try and trade down and either get a QB later or pick up a WR later in the first round.
9. Cincinnati Bengals: Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy St.
The Bengals biggest need is a DT in this situation. I previously had them taking Sedrick Ellis with this pick. However, Sedrick Ellis is being taken by the Chiefs in order to address their D-Line problems. The Bengals defensive secondary problems for the 2008 season. So the Bengals get the best ranked CB as well as the best Kick Returner in the 2008 NFL Draft. Look for the Bengals to take McKelvin here and be happy about taking such a talented athlete.
10. New Orleans Saints: Keith Rivers, LB, USC
The Saints started off their season last year very slow and they are going to look to recover in 2008. The 2008 NFL Draft is how they built in the past and they are going to look to do it again this year. Keith Rivers is a very good OLB with speed and strength to make all the big plays. It has been said that he is also big enough to move inside and play Inside LB as well. So look for this talented player to go to the Saints unless they opt to go with Corner. Hey Man! like my draft? Buy me a BEER!
